Definitions and Interpretations in these
Conditions
For
easier understanding of what service Centro de
Idiomas LOGOS offers, the school is also called
by the English name "LOGOS Language Institute".
"LOGOS" or "the company" or
"the school" shall mean Centro de Idiomas
LOGOS, LOGOS teachers, LOGOS staff or LOGOS language
training. "The student" shall mean the
person in whose name the booking is made and shall
include the person or persons on whose behalf
the same is made. "Force Majeure" shall
mean any event outside the company's control which
prevents the prompt performance of its obligations,
including war and civil strife, etc.
Accommodation
Homestays
include two meals per day (usually breakfast and
dinner), laundry service, a clean room, airport
pick-up and transfer to the host family. If the
student wants to stay with a host family he/she
has to check the "home stay" boxes during
the online booking process and pay through our
secure server. Where accommodation is shown for
one week, this means 6 nights from Sunday to Saturday,
unless otherwise indicated. However, if the student
spends less than 6 nights in any particular week,
he/she will not receive any discount. Additional
days of homestay due to early arrival or late
departure depend on available space and have to
be paid extra (19 us dollars per night including
two meals). The student agrees to inform LOGOS
about extensions of the homestay right after he/she
has booked his/her courses (and regular homestays)
online through the secure server. Extensions of
homestay once the course has begun are subject
to availability. Homestays can also be arranged
for non-students on a space available basis. In
order to allow proper scheduling and due to our
arrangements with the host families, all homestay
arrangements and extensions must be made through
LOGOS.
LOGOS can recommend various hotels, hostels or
aparthotels if the student asks for this service.
The school recommends only accommodation which
it believes is accurate and of good quality and
where the company believes that the student will
be satisfied with. It is the student's sole responsibility
to choose a place; the company can not be held
responsible if the hotel/hostel/aparthotel or
other accommodation can not come up to the students
expectations.
Courses
All courses start on Monday. If the booked course
consists of four lessons per day then morning
classes are from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM; if a course
consists of three hours of tuition per day (for
example the school's semi-intensive course) then
morning classes are from 8:00 AM to 11.00 AM.
There is a twenty minute break at about 10:00
AM. Afternoon classes are from 1:00 PM to 5:00
PM (or 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM if a student takes only
three hours per day) with a 20 minute break around
3:00 PM. Students are assigned to morning or afternoon
classes depending on their level of Spanish (which
is detected by the placement test every student
takes on his/her first day). Whenever possible
the student may choose between morning and afternoon
classes on the first day of the course.
If a student has registered for group classes
but at his/her level of Spanish no group can be
formed, this student will receive 3 hours of private
classes instead of 4 hours of group classes at
the same tuition rate.
Where the number of course lessons is shown, this
corresponds to the school's practice and one lesson
may last from 50-60 minutes. The exact number
of hours shown on the website or the school's
brochures may be somewhat reduced due to the initial
level test which usually takes place on the first
Monday of the course (sometimes no classes are
missed; often the first 2 lessons are missed).
There may also be some missed hours due to evaluation
testing during the course. The school does not
accept any liability for lessons missed due to
these reasons and no refunds will be given where
lessons are missed due to testing.
The company will not refund any monies to a student
who applies for a course requiring a specific
level and is then found to be unable to join the
course after the initial level test. In this case,
the student will be offered a suitable alternative
by the school and any difference in price (if
the alternative course is less expensive) will
be refunded by the company.
Materials
Instructions
and text materials are included with every LOGOS
Spanish course. The student receives the materials
on the first day of his course and occasionally
gets additional papers when necessary. Dictionaries
are not included in the free materials, but the
student may feel free to use one of the school's
dictionaries placed in the school's library any
time he/she is at the school.
Transfers
Airport pick-up is included if a student books
a homestay with a family. Otherwise no airport
transfers are included. All other transfers have
to be paid separately by the student. Transfer
from the host family to the school is by feet
or bus. Cost for a bus ride in and around San
Jose is usually below 0,50 dollars and depends
on the bus the student chooses.
Activities and Excursions
LOGOS has partnered with several travel agencies
to make sure its students get the best excursions
and prices available in the country. On the first
Monday the student receives an information folder
with descriptions of tours, exhibitions, and all
the places a tourist should not miss to see. LOGOS
will try to arrange the best prices for its students
and will recommend the best tours. It is the student's
responsibility to choose the appropriate activity
and pay the tourist agency directly. Descriptions
of activities and excursions which accompany the
language courses are for guidance only, unless
specifically noted in the confirmation invoice.
Some activities may not run at all or may be substituted
by other activities. In low season, some of the
activities may be not be organised at all. The
cost of activities and excursions are not included
except where specifically stated.
Public Holidays
Where a course takes place during a public holiday,
no lessons will take place on that day and no
reduction in price will be given except where
specifically stated. Individual classes are usually
(but not always) rescheduled; group classes are
usually forfeited. LOGOS is normally closed on
January 1, April 8 and 9, the Thursday and Friday
preceding Easter, September 15 and December 25.
The school reserves the right to move these dates;
please contact the school for more information.
Booking and Payment
No contract is made between the company and the
student and no booking is valid until the company
has received payment and PayPal has e-mailed a
Receipt for Payment to the student. (PayPal is
the company's partner for fast, easy and secure
online payments and a global leader in this field
with currently about 60 million users.) An e-mail
acknowledging receipt of an order does not constitute
a PayPal Receipt for Payment. PayPal will issue
this receipt after the company has received a
completed booking order and PayPal has obtained
all fees for courses and homestays booked by the
student.
The fees have to be paid with a credit card (VISA,
Mastercard, American Express or Discover) by using
PayPal If the student has never used PayPal before
he will be asked to enter his/her billing information
and enter credit card data during the online paying
process. If the student already has a PayPal account
he/she can simply use that one to pay. To ensure
highest security standards PayPal's new accounts
can only be used for payments of limited amounts
(eg: $1000 dollars per month for users from the
United States). If the course fees are more than
this limit then the student has to verify his/her
PayPal account by adding a regular bank account
to the PayPal billing data. More information about
this simple process and PayPal's secure payment
service is available at http://www.paypal.com/.
Prices and Surcharges
Charges and Fees for courses, homestays and any
applicable supplements and surcharges will be
as stated on our website. Prices in any printed
brochure supplements, advertisements or other
materials are for indication only. The prices
are valid until further notice but are subject
to change at any time. Once a full payment is
made, the prices will not change, even if they
are changed on the website. The company will absorb
any charges arising after receipt of the final
balance. Should there be a favourable currency
fluctuation, the company reserves the right to
leave prices unaltered. All prices on the LOGOS
website are and will be stated in US dollars.
The amount you are charged will depend on the
exact exchange rate at the time of payment.
Alterations by the Company
The company will do its utmost to provide the
arrangements that have been confirmed, but it
must reserve the right to modify or cancel any
accommodation or itinerary if unforeseen circumstances
arise. If the company cancels or significantly
alters an essential element of the students vacation
for reasons of force majeure, on or before the
starting date of the course, the company shall
inform the students as soon as possible and shall
offer them the choice of alternatives of at least
comparable standard if available. If the company
is unable to offer an alternative of similar price,
the company will offer the nearest available alternative
and will refund the difference paid by the student.
If force majeure occurs while the vacation is
in progress, the company will try to make reasonable
alternative arrangements.
Liability of the Company
The company accepts responsibility for ensuring
that all parts of the vacation are supplied as
booked by the student and that all services shall
reach reasonable standard. However the company
shall not be liable for the failure or improper
performance of these services where such failure
or improper performance is attributable to a)
the fault of the student, b) the unforeseeable
or unavoidable actions of an unconnected third
party, c) unusual and unforeseeable circumstances
beyond the company's control, including force
majeure.
Alterations by the Student
If the student wishes to change their booking
in any way after the PayPal Receipt for Payment
has been issued, they must inform the company
immediately, in writing, and the company reserves
the right to charge $50 per person per change
to cover the additional administration involved,
plus any additional charges imposed by hotels,
travel agencies or other suppliers. All tickets
for tours and other travel products (train, coach,
bus tickets) that have been issued because of
the students request are non-flexible (except
where the company explicitly specifies otherwise)
which means that any changes including date, time,
destination, and name on a ticket will normally
be treated by any travel agency as a cancellation
and re-booking, and 100% cancellation charges
may apply.
Cancellation by the Student and Visa Problems
If the student wishes to cancel their booking
this must be done in writing by the person who
made the online order. The date of cancellation
will be taken as the date that the company receives
the letter or e-mail.
The cancellation charges are:
-
60 days or more before the starting date of
the course = 15% + any non-flexible travel products
-
between 15-59 days before the starting date
of the course = 25% + any non-flexible travel
products
-
between 1-14 days before the starting date of
the course = 50% + any non-flexible travel products.
Where a student needs a visa and has made a reasonable
attempt to obtain a visa for Costa Rica within
a reasonable timescale but is unable to obtain
the visa, all money and deposits will be returned
subject to a $100 administration charge on receipt
of written confirmation from the relevant consulate
detailing the visa rejection (only original documents
will be accepted). No refunds will be given for
tickets or other travel products. Notification
of visa rejection must be made to the school in
writing (or e-mail) at least 2 weeks before the
start date of the course or accommodation booking.
In
the case of cancellation or visa problems, the student
will also be subject to the following charges, depending
on the method used to provide the refund: $50 for
a bank transfer, or 3.4% of the total to a PayPal
account.
It
is the student's responsibility to claim any insurance
monies due as the company cannot claim on behalf
of the student, which is why insurance should always
be taken out at the time of booking.
Refunds
No refunds are made for any portion of classes or
homestay once the program has begun unless a refund
is requested in compliance with our 100% satisfaction
guarantee.
100% Money-back Guarantee
At LOGOS customer satisfaction is the number one
priority and we always try to exceed our students'
expectations. In case the school cannot come up
to the student's expectations or cannot provide
the service as advertised on the school's website
the student has to right to receive a prompt refund.
If the student experiences something that does not
meet his/her expectations and contacts the school
about this issue then LOGOS will try to immediately
find a satisfactory solution. If no solution can
be found within a reasonable timeframe the student
will get a refund amounting to 100% of the payments
for course lessons and homestay not taken at that
time. If the student has booked excursions or made
payments to any companies other than LOGOS then
the school cannot be held reliable for refunding
those moneys.
Descriptions
The company honestly believes that all statements
made in its brochure or website are factual and
correct. Every reasonable effort has been made to
describe the school and environs and to provide
the amenities described. The company cannot therefore
be held responsible for any changes that become
known after the brochure was produced (up-to-date
information can be found on the website), nor can
the company accept liabilities for happenings outside
its reasonable control. The company undertakes to
advise the student of any material changes known
to it prior to the student's arrival.
Special Requirements
Any special requests must be advised to the company
in writing.
Insurance
Students must have evidence of adequate insurance
at the time of arrival in Costa Rica. The company
reserves the right to refuse to accept bookings
from students who are not adequately insured against
holiday risks. It is the student's obligation to
obtain extensive insurance and the school does not
scrutinize if a student is ensured. If a student
books any products or services from LOGOS and its
website the student agrees to have purchased all
types of insurance necessary (including, but not
restricted to, the following: medical insurance,
accident and sickness coverage, insurance against
theft, loss and trip interruption/cancellation insurance).
The school can not be held responsible for the lack
of proper insurance of a student.
